This 12 inch statue of St. Benedict shows him with a book and crosier. The crosier symbolizes his founding of the Benedictine order while the book symbolizes the rule of St. Benedict. There is also a duck by his feet, showing the resourcefulness in farming and other labor which his order must possess. It is a painted plaster statue.
St. Benedict lived in the 6th century. He founded the first western order of monks and is thus hailed as the Father of Western Monasticism. His rule of Prayer and Work has been the model for countless other religious orders. He is the patron saint of students, seminarians and religious.
