The Second Vatican Council marked a turning point in the history of the Church. It made very clear that all the followers of Christ are called not only to be saved but to be sanctified...In practice, this means that each of us recognizes God's will in the particular vocation to which God has called us. Once we understand what God expects, we then set ourselves to do His will in generosity. We give ourselves to Him and He gives Himself to us, "full measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap; because the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given back" (Lk. 6:38)
This is the main lesson of Spiritual Life in the Modern World. With so much sadness and sorrow all around us, we can experience deep interior joy, provided we surrender ourselves without reserve to the Providence of God
