The San Damiano Crucifix, originally designed in the Middle Ages, has been known to be a favorite among the Franciscans. Saint Francis first discovered it when he came upon the abandoned and dilapidated chapel of San Damiano, and it was there that he was summoned by God to begin his mission. Hanging on the cross is our beloved Savior, surrounded by angels and saints offering consolation to him in his darkest hour. This wooden version of the San Damiano Cross spans a length of two inches. It includes a thin, durable lanyard so that the cross may be worn around the neck.
